Last Thursday at our Fireside Chat we had the fascinating opportunity to hear how Pat Algiers continues to stay relevant while evolving professionally. She is a true entrepreneur and is a constant source of inspiration. At her firm, Chemistry in Place, she uses her background in Interior Design and Commercial Real Estate to determine the art and science of placemaking. Through her professional endeavors, she has ties with many key players in the business world and in the City of Milwaukee.

She spoke to our audience about the importance of the City of Milwaukee Live, Work, and Play initiative she did while a partner at Kahler Slater Architects. Pat stressed how we need to move our work settings to ones where we can exit the workplace and find camaraderie in area eateries. As a member of the Village of Shorewood’s Business Improvement District (BID), the role of the BID Director (Ericka Lang who was present) and the importance of communities such as ours at MalamaDoe where we help women thrive are instrumental in growth.
But, what really stood out is her Open-Mindedness.

By never putting all her eggs in one basket career-wise, Pat allowed herself to listen to her inner voice as a gauge. She constantly takes on new challenges to stay relevant, all while heeding her father’s advice to realize that “everything revolves around People, Place, and Things.”

Key takeaways from her talk were the value of soft skills, having good energy, and surrounding yourself by people who can make it happen – especially great managers. Also, the importance of taking ageism out of the equation and how “Failure is Not an Option” are key. Her financial savviness became apparent as she has no business debt and contracts out labor on a project basis. Pat noted how in 2017 everything is moving faster, and we look forward to partnering with her in the future as we build our community together.

Thanks for sharing your story Pat Algiers!
